On February 18th, the so-called "dead Carnival" takes place: on Ash Wednesday and the first day of Lent, the funeral of the Carnival is staged, with a burlesque and mocking spirit. People wear mourning clothes and accompany the coffin, with the town band, which alternates funeral marches with irreverently cheerful music. It is a veritable parody of the funeral rite that winds through the streets of the old town before the solemn funeral in Piazza Orsini. All participants are dressed in mourning and give free rein to satire, taking as a subject some customs and traditions of the inhabitants and the events that took place in town during the year. At the end everybody enjoys a glass of mulled wine with "castagnole"!
