Oriented Natural Reserve of Fara San Martino - Palombaro (CH)
It is located in the heart of the Majella and has an extension of 4,202 hectares between the two common names in the province of Chieti. The reserve is characterized by extensive mountain pine formations, vast beech forests and spontaneous black pine cores. Remarkable is the presence of several herbaceous and shrub species of high scientific and naturalistic value. The whole area is home to several species of birds such as the Golden Eagle, the Peregrine Falcon, the Lanario and the elegant woodpecker; moreover, we find among the mammals the brown bear and the Apennine wolf. In the Reserve, not far from the center of Fara San Martino are the scenic Gorges of San Martino, a suggestive gorge a few meters wide, dug in the past by the incessant action of the water, which is certainly worth visiting and allows the most experts to get to the top of Monte Amaro, at 2973 meters of altitude. In the main square of Fara there is the Visitor Center which offers visitors the opportunity to have information, tourist brochures and to purchase maps of the paths, guides, manuals, souvenirs and gadgets of the Majella National Park. In the Center there is also the Naturalistic Museum, open during the summer period every day, in other periods on Saturdays and Sundays. The museum itinerary makes you imagine walking along a path that, due to its climatic, altitudinal, geological, floristic and vegetal characteristics, allows you to know the Majella Massif in its most suggestive and real corners.
Symbol of the Reserve is the Coturnice.
