Sant'Eufemia a Maiella

Ancient village between the Majella and Mount Morrone, at 870 meters above sea level, on a high hill in the Majella National Park (northern slope) in the province of Pescara, 55 km away. Surrounded by beautiful mountains it is a place suitable for quiet holidays in a healthy and fascinating natural environment. Main resources: agriculture, sheep farming, tourism. Sports facilities, park in the woods, mountain oven, cured meats and dairy products. In the small center a visit to the Church of S. Bartolomeo looking classically in irregular stone blocks; three portals whose dates 1580 and 1516 clearly indicate the Renaissance layout; the median portal is baroque. Renaissance windows in the upper part.
Strong stone bell tower. Interior with three naves, pillars and round arches, polygonal apse. Altars, niches and statues on the side walls. The monumental carved wooden tabernacle with a typical pyramid-shaped tapestry is remarkable and artistic: valuable high baroque work m 4.63. At Sant'Eufemia a Majella there is the Lama Bianca Reserve, with a path for the blind and the Botanical Garden of the Park. A visit is also a must to the ancient medieval village of the nearby village of Roccacaramanico where there is also the Diana and Tamara Ethnographic Museum.
