The Festival of the Banderesi - Bucchianico (Ch)

The Festival commemorates an event that took place in the 14th century when the little town of Bucchianico came under threat from neighbouring Teate. All those who lived in the countryside followed the “Banderese”, their commander, and sought refuge inside the city walls. Bucchianico was much weaker than Teate and ought to have been defeated easily. Legend has it that Saint Urban urged the men to dress in brightly coloured outfits with feather plumes to create the illusion of a large army.
