The MOM - Museum of the Marsican Bear - housed in a wing of the former convent of St. Anthony in the Municipality of Palena, consists of 5 sections set up with panels, dioramas and a striking reconstruction of the forest at night. The exhibition rooms describe the biological characteristics and life habits of the placid plantigrade, without neglecting mythology and history, and conclude with issues related to the risk of extinction and projects for the protection and preservation of the bear. The strong point of the museum is the educational character that prevails over the scientific aspect; in fact, an interactive part allows the stimulation of curiosity for children and adults. The structure is enriched by an audio-video room that allows the projection of images about the bear and the Park in general. The museum wants to be a moment of encounter with the bear to know him, love him, respect him and defend him. It was wanted in the territory of Palena because area traditionally affected by the presence of the brown bear, so the guided tour inside the museum can be combined with the excursion along one of the paths of the bear, to have a direct contact with its environment and go in search of the indirect signs of its presence.
