Museo Pelino - Sulmona (ph. visitsulmona.it)

Museum of Art and Technology of Confetti - Sulmona (AQ)

The Museum contains machinery, memorabilia, memories, rare and precious objects connected with the ancient art of the production of sugared almonds in Sulmona. The Museum, created by Olindo Pelino, intends to present itself as a due act of recognition to all the ancient confectioners who from the late Middle Ages onwards have helped to create the reputation of Sulmona as a city of sugared almonds. The Museum preserves all the diplomas obtained in the main world exhibitions from the 19th century to the present; the patents registered by the Pelino sugared almond factory in various European countries and in very distant times; the first telephone in Sulmona; statues and portraits of the ancestors; a collection of ancient and precious wedding favors.  In another room you can find the reconstruction of an eighteenth-century laboratory for the production of sugared almonds; ancient auxiliary tools, such as mills, a roaster, a threader, mortars, jars with ancient ingredients, multiple strains for sugar syrup (used in the preparation of rosolio sugared almonds), a peeler, a polishing machine, etc..
