Pereto observes the valley below from the rock spur on which it stands, like an ancient guardian who controls his kingdom. All around, the rocks are the element that dominates the territory, alternating with green woods of oak and beech trees, which soften the landscape. Its territory has always been an area of passage and border, so much so that it deserves the name of "Porta d'Abruzzo". The ancient village is dominated by the building which is its symbol and history: the medieval castle, built as we see it today by Frederick II of Swabia. With its keep, the watchtowers and entrance doors bring us back to medieval atmospheres, including duels and spells, battles and legends. As if the time had never passed, on certain winter evenings it seems still to feel the hooves of the horses climbing towards the fortress...
