The Sanctuary preserves a miraculous image of the Madonna and Child (stone bas-relief). It was erected at the end of the 16th century in the place where, according to tradition, the effigy of the Virgin, transported from distant lands, became so heavy that it could no longer be removed.

Palazzo Fanzago (1626-1642), so called in reference to its designer Cosimo Fanzago (from Bergamo), was intended to house the monastery of the Poor Clares of S. Scolastica. It is the most interesting public building, characterized by six large baroque niches (fake windows) that alternate with a closed and broken crown gable on the main facade, overlooking the Town Hall Square.

In ancient times considered sacred and dedicated to Jupiter, the Bosco di Sant'Antonio is one of the most beautiful beech woods in Abruzzo. It extends for 17 hectares between the ridges of Monte Pizzalto and Monte Rotella.

Of karst and alluvial origin, the plateau is located south of the mighty and complex chain of Monte Greco (2283 m.), which encloses and separates it at intervals. Its vastness and high altitude make it inique. Together with the 5 Miglia, Prato, Quarto Grande and other plateaus, it forms the "most significant mountainous system in the Apennine region".
