The waterfall has a curious name “Zompo lo Schioppo” and is located in the Roveto Valley at the border with Lazio. The unusual name of this spectacular waterfall comes from the dialectal word “zompo” that means “water drop”. The waterfall comes down from the Cantari Mountain’s top near the village of Morino. The name is not the only surprising aspect of this natural wonder. The 100 meters altitude makes it so powerful that a wide natural basin has been created at the base of the falls and during the time of maximal flow the pounding is really thunderous. This natural wonder is located in a suggestive landscape, at the feet of the beautiful beech forest Viglio and Crepacuore. This area is protected since 1987 with a Natural Regional Reserve, with a surface of 1.025 hectares. Spring is the best season to visit it, when the melting of the snow causes an increasing flow, that makes the waterfall really spectacular.
